A well-earned moment in the spotlight for our third- through fifth-grade teachers...and their hardworking students! 💙

The Kanawha County Schools Board of Education recognized these teachers for having their building’s highest number of students scoring proficient at the end of the 2025–2026 school year.

These teachers helped students build the skills to succeed with engaging lessons. Their students put in the effort and showed what they knew. That’s something to celebrate together.

Each teacher received a certificate and a keychain made by Riverside High School students, a special touch from another group of KCS learners!

📱 **Midland Trail Weekly Update – October 19–23** 💜🖤💎

Good evening, Midland Trail families!

Monday begins the second nine weeks at Midland Trail Elementary School. This is a fresh opportunity for every Diamond to build on the progress they have made and strengthen the habits that lead to success:

⏰ Show up on time.
🎒 Be prepared.
💪 Work your hardest.

⏰ **SCHOOL-TIME REMINDERS**

🚪 **Doors open:** 6:45 a.m.
🔔 **Tardy bell:** 7:15 a.m.
🚌 **Dismissal begins:** 1:45 p.m.

Students should arrive early enough to eat breakfast, report to class, and be ready to learn before the 7:15 a.m. tardy bell.

📚 **AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING BEGINS**

After-school tutoring begins this week for enrolled students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.

📆 Tuesday, October 20
📆 Thursday, October 22
⏰ 2:00–2:45 p.m.

Families of participating students should make arrangements for their children to be picked up promptly at 2:45 p.m.

📊 **REPORT CARDS – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23**

First-nine-weeks report cards will be distributed Friday. Please review your child’s grades, attendance, behavior, effort, and academic growth.

Celebrate the progress your child has made, identify areas that need improvement, and help set goals for the second nine weeks. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions or would like to discuss additional support.

🏫💎 **ATTENDANCE MATTERS: OUR GOAL IS BELOW 10%**

Midland Trail currently has a **14% chronic absence rate**. Our goal is to reduce that number to below 10% by the end of the second nine weeks, but reaching that goal will require support from every family.

Every absence adds up. When students miss school, they miss direct instruction, classroom discussions, practice, interventions, and opportunities to grow.

Families, please continue helping us by:

💎 Getting students to school every day
💎 Making sure students arrive before the tardy bell
💎 Scheduling appointments outside school hours whenever possible
💎 Communicating with the school when your family needs assistance
💎 Providing documentation for excused absences

If transportation, health concerns, or other challenges are affecting your child’s attendance, please contact the school. We want to work with you and help remove barriers whenever possible.

"Every Day You’re Here… You Shine!"

💜🖤 **FRIDAY IS WEAR DIAMOND COLORS DAY!**

Students and staff are encouraged to wear purple, black, white, or Midland Trail spirit wear Friday and fill our building with Diamond pride! What purple will Mr. Canada have on this week? Show up to find out!!

Our students are proving that when we set high expectations, put in the work, and take pride in what we do, GREAT things happen!

Our climb to the next level isn't just about test scores or rankings. It's about building a culture where excellence becomes the expectation, growth becomes the mindset, and success becomes the STANDARD!

A huge THANK YOU to our teachers, staff, and families who continue to challenge, encourage, and support our students!

✌️ Some earned that recognition for both assessments!

These teachers brought learning to life through creative, interactive lessons. Their students put in the work and showed what they knew. Both deserve a round of applause. 👏

👟 4,300 pairs of shoes made their way to KCS schools this year thanks to Kids of Kanawha...that is double the number donated last year!

Kids of Kanawha raised the funds to provide shoes to every KCS middle and high school, along with 28 elementary schools. A huge thank-you goes to the local businesses, companies, and individuals who gave to this shoe drive to help make it happen.

Things like this matter. It’s a reminder to our students that people all across Kanawha County are in their corner. Rooting for them and supporting them. We’re so thankful for Kids of Kanawha and for a community that continues to show up for our schools.
